[ cheers and applause ] i'm so glad you're here because last night's audience was the worst. [ laughter ] i don't know if you guys caught the show last night, but because of the hurricane, we had to do the show to a bunch of empty seats. or as clint eastwood calls that, "a full house." [ laughter and applause ] "200 -- 250 obamas." i'm telling you, after last night's show, i realized how much i missed the sound of laughter and applause.

i haven't heard that much silence since kim kardashian was asked to say something off camera. [ laughter ] we're still dealing with hurricane sandy here in new york. in fact, a lot of people on the east coast don't have access to facebook or twitter. [ audience oohs ] everybody was like, "how are people supposed to know i'm complaining about facebook and twitter if i don't have facebook or twitter?" [ laughter ] [ applause ] a lot of people couldn't get on instagram either. >> steve: oh. >> jimmy: it was tough. i mean, this morning, i had to show a picture of what i ate for breakfast to my cab driver. i go, "look at this thing." [ laughter ] [ with foreign accent ] "i love rice krispies!" [ laughter ] "snap, crackle, pop -- it's fantastic. yes, sometimes it's snap, snap, crackle, then pop. sometimes pop does -- you never know with crispy rice. you never know with crispy rice." [ laughter ] "well, you're here. it's $5.50." that's right. people had no e-mail, facebook, twitter or instagram. or as aol users put it, "welcome to the party." [ laughter ]

some celebrity news. this week, angelina jolie was spotted taking her kids shopping for halloween costumes. yeah, they picked something really cute -- 101 dalmatians. [ laughter ] very cute. and finally, a new report found that an american is arrested for marijuana possession every 42 seconds. and that american's name is snoop dogg. [ cheers and applause ] hey, guys, it's been a rough couple of days here in new york, and -- but what's great about this city is that, when there is a crisis, everyone pulls together. and i think we all felt that today. i did. i mean, usually you walk down the street, you just walk by people. you don't even look at them. you don't care. you know, you just go by. i don't know. it's just new york. you know, so many people. but today, you were making eye contact with people. at least i was. i mean, you kinda look at each other. you go like, you okay? yeah, i'm okay. you good? all right, good. [ laughter ] you know? and it's important that we look out for each other. it's what we do here. it's what new york city's all about. so, i'm really happy to say that our -- all of our staff is okay. they are incredible, and they're family here, so thank god they all made it through safe.

and i especially want to thank and acknowledge all the people working to get us through this mess -- policemen, firemen, hospital workers, first responders. those guys are awesome. props to mayor bloomberg, governor cuomo, governor christie. they've been working around the clock, trying to help people, keeping everyone informed and moving everything forward, which is all we can do. if you want to help out, i found a great way to do this. of course, the red cross is phenomenal. and it's very easy to donate to them. you can help them by -- you text the word, "redcross," to 9-0 -- 9-0 -- it's tough for me. [ cheers and applause ] he's a genius. phish fans are like, "what?" you guys, it's time for "late night instagrams." ♪ grams oh grams here's a gram for me ♪ [ applause ] >> jimmy: well, i'm sure you all know instagram. but if you haven't heard of it, it's an app for your phone that let's you take a picture and post it so all your friends and followers can see it. it's so much fun. so, last week, i took a photo of me in my halloween costume, which i made myself -- d-i-y. and i posted it on instagram and gave it the hashtag, "diyhalloweencostume." take a look. this is me as fitt romney. it. >> but it's certainly something that he can fix. new jersey can use it. new york can use it. you had a tough time. >> jimmy: yeah. >> you had a very, very tough time. >> jimmy: i appreciate you coming down today because, you know, it's tough getting guests. and look at our great audience that came down as well. >> they had a tough time. >> jimmy: i appreciate it. new york city -- [ cheers and applause ] the tough get going, you know? >> well, it is. but you know, it's sort of interesting because when the world trade center came down, that was 200 times worse than what we just went through. and it was amazing the way it was a horrible period of time -- probably the worst time in this country's history. but new yorkers stuck together. they got together, and that's happening again. i can see it. this is just a small little microcosm of that. but new yorkers have tremendous spirit, and i think they're doing it again. >> jimmy: they have such a big heart, and i want to say the trump tower atrium right here -- this is -- it stayed open. there's people going in there. you got free food, free coffee. that's very nice of to you do that. >> well, you know, i have a staff that's terrific, and i have a building that was in great shape. it didn't -- it has all sorts of equipment where it can keep going, including generators.

[ laughter ] this dangly thing hanging off the side of this building. you tweeted this photo and you said, "i know this is not fake. this does not look fake." you knew it wasn't. >> well, i knew something was going to happen. you know, they had the boom. it's called a swiss crane. i use many of them when i build buildings. i know a lot about cranes and building. and the boom was up very, very

straight. it wasn't down low where it couldn't have blown back, and it was straight. and i said to my wife -- i actually said, "you know, boy is that thing up high." and the ball -- they call it the ball and hook -- that was just hanging loosely. and i was shocked. and a few minutes -- 'cause i came back and i looked. it's right from my apartment. i mean, i'm looking literally right at it. and all of a sudden, it blew over. and, you know, i guess you have to be surprised to see that, but it was up so straight that it didn't take much wind, and somebody it did a very poor job. and it's lucky that nobody was killed. >> jimmy: yes, they were lucky. >> very lucky. >> jimmy: but i saw that you tweeted. you go, "if that was my building, i would have been lambasted." >> i would've been run out of town. if that was a trump building -- >> jimmy: of course you would've! yeah, yeah. i would've made jokes about it. i'd go, "hey, what is this guy doing?" but i totally got your back on that. who's doing this? >> well, they just made a mistake. i mean, we have amazing construction workers in the -- >> jimmy: i always get scared about these cranes. >> yeah, they're dangerous. >> jimmy: yeah, i wish there was some other way. i saw that tweet and i go, "i got your back on that." i feel like -- if that was you, i would've made jokes.
